The Pyrenean Shepherd is a tireless herder descended from ancient sheepdogs of the Pyrenees highlands who is enthusiastic, playful, and whip-smart. The ‘rough-faced’ and smooth-faced’ coat variants of tough and lean Pyr Sheps are available.
These rugged, lanky, and vivacious herders come in two coat varieties: rough-faced and smooth-faced and are renowned for their ferocious and free-flowing action. While smooths have short facial hair, a finer-textured coat, and a slightly longer, pointier muzzle, roughs have abundant, “windswept” hair above the muzzle and a generally harsh coat. This sinewy, rectangular breed comes in two different hues and patterns. Dark almond-shaped eyes with a vigilant and cunning attitude are how Pyr Sheps view the world.
