The rustic Braque Francais Pyrenean breed originated in France. He is the French Pyrenean Pointing Dog in English.
The Braque Francais Pyrenean is a medium-sized dog with a velvety, shorthaired coat that is well-proportioned. He was bred specifically to hunt in the harsh, parched Pyrenees Mountains that lie on the border between France and Spain. The breed has a long history and is regarded as the ancestor of all modern shorthaired pointing breeds. The Gascony Type and the Pyrenean Type are the two varieties of Braque Francais. The smaller and more well-known of the two is the Braque Francais Pyrenean. He enjoys the water and has a strong instinct to retrieve it. He is docile, mild, and sociable.
