The Broholmer is a Danish breed that is calm, and friendly, but alert and self-assured. It is a perfect family dog. The Broholmer is a big mastiff-like dog with a broad, hefty head that is rectangular in shape and well-built. He was referred to as a highly common breed, especially in the Copenhagen area, in a Danish dog book from around the year 1800. His frequent appearances lying at the entrances to butcher shops earned him the moniker “the butcher’s dog.” He served as a watchdog above the house, a herder of livestock at the farm, and a guard dog in the markets of the city. He is the only thing keeping invaders away right now because of his size. The Broholmer loves to cuddle, has a kind heart, and is always drawn to you, yet he prefers to sit on you. Although he seems to misjudge his size, supervision is advised because he is a great dog with kids and other dogs. This breed can do agility, fetch balls, jump and catch frisbees, and is very agile for a dog his size. He will be more than ready to join you for everything, including walks in the park, picnics, camping trips, and hikes.
